Course Objective

The Objective of the course is to train competent technicians capable of performing quality electrocardiograms without errors, maintaining an adequate and safe environment for the patient, complying with all the standards and procedures established within ethics and legality and who are capable of identifying the most frequent alterations in the electrical activity of the heart that reflect pathological conditions of emergencies.

  • To learn the anatomy of the heart, its morphology, the main structures that comprise it and are responsible for its function as a pump for the organism, propelling blood.
  • To know the functions of each structure of the heart in its normal state and its behavior in pathological states that are reflected by changes in its electrical activity.
  • Proper use and maintenance of the electrocardiography.
  • How to maintain a safe and reliable environment for the patient during the procedure.
  • How to properly prepare the patient for the ECG test and use all the required precautions.
  • Proper placement of the electrodes.
  • Interpretation of 12-lead tracings and how to draw and assemble an ECG strip.
  • Identify and calculate tracings, calculate the P wave, PR interval, QRS complex, and T wave.
  • Interpret the presence of important abnormalities on an ECG and the importance of prompt medical intervention.
  • Knowing Medical Terminology: Understanding medical terminology and using medical abbreviations is essential for effective communication with other healthcare professionals.
  • Basic computer skills: Knowledge of basic computer skills is essential to update and maintain patient records and operate ECG equipment.
  • The legal and ethical responsibilities of an ECG assistant.
